WHITWORTH STUDENTS TELEVISED “DOING GOOD WITH GOODWILL”

When large contingents of students from Whitworth College volunteered at two Goodwill facilities, local television stations covered their activities.

The Spokane-area ABC affiliate, KXLY TV Channel 4, filmed a group of several dozen students at the North Nevada Street Facility where worked in the back rooms and in the retail store.  The local NBC affiliate, KHQ TV,  also filmed a large group of the students who worked hard cleaning up a back parking lot in preparation for renovation of the downtown Spokane complex and the construction of a new playground for Goodwill’s ABC Discovery Child Care Center.

On October 4, Q6 spotlighted Bella Sera (beautiful evening), Goodwill’s annual auction party.  The item ran on the station’s popular morning show.

HUCKLEBERRY’S PUTS GOODWILL ON THE AIR

A benefit campaign for Goodwill resulted in extensive coverage on KREM 2 television in July.  In addition to airing a public service announcement featuring popular news anchor Nadine Woodward, KREM spotlighted the donation drive in its newscasts leading up to July 10 when Huckleberry’s Natural Market became the scene of a community-wide collection of reusable household goods.  The fourth annual drive sponsored by Huckleberry’s was also featured by co-sponsor Classy 99.9 FM Radio before and during the drive, with program director and on-air personality Beau Tyler appealing to listeners to bring by targeted categories of housewares, furniture, sporting goods, and other items.

“TREASURE COLLECTOR” COLUMN SPOTLIGHTS BJ’S

Cheryl-Anne Millsap turned her attention to Bj’s, Goodwill’s specialty store, in her column in The Spokesman-Review, Spokane’s daily newspaper, on July 30.  The column focused readers’ attention on the high-end yet bargain-priced books she found in Bj’s.  Millsap wrote that the nearly 40 decorator books she bought--all of them in excellent, nearly new condition--had a retail value of $500.  Her purchases averaged $4.00.  The indefatigable collector is a regular Bj’s shopper and has featured the unique boutique-style store in previous columns.

GOODWILL STARS ON “GOOD MORNING NORTHWEST”

As part of the promotion of Goodwill’s annual spring fashion show, luncheon and sale, four representatives modeled contemporary fashions on KXLY’s popular Sunday morning show on April 4.

Co-anchor Teresa Lukins interviewed Diane Galloway, Public Relations Manager, about the event while three models showed off favorite selections.  Diane wore a Jones New York blazer from Bj’s, Goodwill’s specialty store in downtown Spokane.  Clark Brekke, Goodwill’s Vice President of Human Services, was stylish in a black sport coat and slacks from Goodwill.  Jessie Wuerst, Financial Relations Manager for Avista Corp. and a returning volunteer model, was nautically turned out in a Ralph Lauren summer sweater and crisp linen crop pants.  Latisha Hill, a graduate student at Eastern Washington University, took a break from the books to don a special strawberry plaid dress.
